Still (1828-1917), who became dissatisfied with the medical methods of the day, and who later founded the first college for the new treatment technique at Kirksville, Missouri in 1892. Having lost three children to an epidemic of spinal meningitis in 1864, ha was moved to develop the medicine which, in contrast to orthodox medicine, placed emphasis on the relationship between the musculo-skeletal structure and organ function. All Osteopathic Doctors hold both the Bachelor's and Doctorate degrees. In 1972, there were 13,000 such physicians in the U.S., and the science had spread abroad as well.
